People are acting like the new appointee to the US Supreme court is some horrible thing. The reality is he is as close to the exact way a Supreme Court Justice should be, by way of the intent of the court. Does not matter if you agree with his politics or not. The intent of the court& his qualifications match up. Now will he be great for people on death row? Who knows. He, like most Americans support capital punishment. Just like them great liberals out in California, who overwhelmingly voted for Hillary Clinton. They was given the option for California. End it of speed it up. They said speed their death penalty. Another state that ended the death penalty by legislative action.
The people voted it back in. So the people support it. When I got here , was told that in 10 years it would be gone. Well I say about ten years from now it might be gone. Doubt it. As when dealing with the arguements like the suffering of a person on death row. Most do not care. Sure media figures & such might make some noise about it. Though if you go to the average person & say ” Hey this guy right here. Yeah he raped & beat to death a couple teenage girls. When we kill his ass, he might feel a bit of pain & suffering.” Most Americans will say “I hope he feels all kinds of suffering!”
I have said it for years & I say it again. The people do not give a damn about execution drugs or if we cant watch some TV. I have heard guys here say “If the public knew how bad the health care is, there would be an outrage.” No the hell there wouldn’t! Not when people who never committed a crime struggle with health care costs. As often happens when people spend their lives in a bubble. We all associate with like minded people. We listen to the talk shows that support our line of thinking. Follow the politician that votes our way. As a result we do not see the world outside of that bubble. Most do. Which is why I make it a habit to read, listen & discuss a variety of topics with a wide range of people. To end the death penalty. You have to show system is broken.
If media would focus on the cases down here where dudes was wrongfully convicted, then it would show the people how their money is getting wasted. For example how Harris County / Houston Texas would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to send a guy to death row. Yet over a thousand rape kits (the test done on a woman after a rape). These kits was left to sit in storage for years. No justice for the woman. The attacker left to roam the streets & hurt others. Huh, never heard of the mass marchs by femenist over that. Wasnt just in Houston. Was in several cities like that, with untested kits.
Got to show the system is broken & that money is being wasted.
People did the lethal injection fight. I get it, but well with current political evironment. Yeah thats out the window, because laws that help the state are going to be passed. This , look. Most people are totally clueless about the laws of the land, much less the roles of government & what the constitution dictates. Right now due to republicans controling the congress & senate, along with president being republican & deep majority of the states being controlled by republicans. They can change the constitution! They can right now say, it is now the ah I cant recall if there is 25 or 26 current admendmants. Anyways, they can say it is the 25th admendment of the US constitution that all persons who commit rape OR murder , that they are to , upon conviction face execution. It then would be the law of the land & COULD NOT Be challenged.
Now because not all republicans think the same, that’s NOT happening. Point is though, that, if you are going to fight the system. Learn the system. Also get the media to focus on the wrongful convictions. As has been shown, most do not care about the medias opinions. Trump being president is prime example. The way US media is, most do not trust it & havent trusted it way before Trump came along.
There are several people that fight hard as individuals. Sure I do not agree with all, but applaud their energy & efforts! What needs to be done is to get the media to focus on the way the system is broken. To through highlighting several cases current & past. THAT will change peoples minds. Not just ‘telling’ the people the death penalty is wrong. You got to show people.
The Supreme court will be 5/4 split on most issues like it was with Scalia before he passed away. Chance is it could end because of the swing vote on the court. That is possible! Though if it does not end within 2 years by US Supreme court. It will be 10 years atleast before it ends. Unless Trump & the republicans fuck everything up, then it will be 6 years.
To clear up the Media comment so no one thinks I contradict myself. The media tends to ‘tell’ people the death penalty is bad. That will not work. The media needs to SHOW the people it doesnt work the way it currently is & that both money is being wasted & innocent people are being executed.
You know why Texas leads the nation in criminal justice reform? Because even though they will not admit it. Everyone knows Texas has killed innocent people.
Todd Willinghams case & the coverage it got more to change the system then any march, blog, story, & or poll result.
Alrighty then, as can see I will be blogging more.
